RTSS KIDS-PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

A NOTE ON REPORT BOOKS

Once you receive your report book, you need to critically assess your potential. A report book is to a student what an x ray report is to a patient. You can't brush aside the marks and remarks that have been entered there.

The marks you have obtained should lead you to the following question-is that all I can do? If you have obtained 100% in a subject, then you have reached the top. But for some students, obtaining 70 marks may be a great sigh of relief, because that is the ceiling you can reach. Other students constantly challenge themselves and try to get better and better marks. rarely will a student obtain 100% in all the subjects he takes for an exam.

Your teachers and your rector, then your parents and friends will make comments on your performance. It is important that you comment on your own performence. Some students  may feel bad if they have underachieved, others may feel happy that they made the grades that they had been pining for. Don't be indifferent, please!

If the marks are not okay, then review your learning startegies. You can't expect to improve your grades by sticking to the method of revising and learning to which you are used to. Is it because your retention capacity is low that you got poor marks? Did you obtain poor marks because you did not devote sufficient time to your work and revision? Were you distracted by friends or family or personal problems which kept you away from your revision? Did you manage your time intelligently? Did you fail to clear your doubts with your class teachers? Did you master the chapters which were done long time back? Were you too over confident?

The questions above are not exhaustive. You can add your own questions during the reflective exercise. Decide how you will change your strategies. Set clear goals and targets, for example, "I will obtain 70 marks in Add Maths, each week I will revise such and such chapter and work so many questions on my own and submit my work to my teacher, etc".

Dare to challenge yourself. There are students at the RTSS who had obtained a C in Maths in CPE but ended with a distinction 2 in the SC exam. There are others who obtained aggregate 42 in the first term form V exam but ended with 29 in the final SC exam. There is one student who was ranked 3500 in CPE, who obtained 32 in SC but was finally ranked 14th in the Arts Side in the HSC exam. Fuel your enthusiasm, combat laziness, avoid time wasters and stick to your dream. If you put 100% in whatever you do, then a strange magic operates to make your wishes come true.

I wish you all the best kids.

My dream is to see you at the top.

I want you to carry home results that make your parents proud of you. I want parents' pains to dissolve in the tears of joy when they hug you.

I want each one of you to be a winner.

Take care kids.

Caring for all of you all the way.

Your rector

M Gungapersad
